Sooner or later every growing creator or agency faces the question: hire chatters, or let an AI do the chatting? Both can sell. They just fail in very different ways.
What a human chatting team really costs
Chatters are usually paid by the hour, with a commission on what they sell, or both. The wage is only part of the cost:
- Coverage. Fans write at all hours. One chatter covers one shift; 24/7 needs a team.
- Training. Every new chatter has to learn your persona, your prices and your rules - and some never get your voice right.
- Control. Someone has to read their chats, catch mistakes and handle disputes.
- Turnover. When a good chatter leaves, the knowledge leaves with them.
Where an AI chatter wins
Speed. An AI answers in seconds, at any hour, for every fan at once. In our data half of the fans who reply are gone by their 10th reply - speed decides how many of them you keep.
Consistency. The persona, the price ladder and the rules are the same in every chat. No bad days, no copy-paste walls of text, no forgotten details.
Follow-ups. The most neglected job in any chatting team. An AI never forgets the fan who went quiet or the PPV he didn't open - and never sends the same line twice.
Learning from data. You can test two ways of answering an objection against each other and keep the winner. We do this constantly; one example: when a fan asked to meet, one answer brought noticeably more subscribers than another (here's the script).
Languages. A German, Spanish or Dutch fan gets answers in his own language without hiring a native speaker.
Where humans still win
- Custom requests. Negotiating a custom video, a special request or a big bundle still benefits from a human.
- Judgement calls. A fan in a real crisis, a payment dispute, anything that needs a careful, personal touch.
- Calls. Live voice or video calls are human territory.
Not all AI is equal
The model behind an AI chatter matters - but not the way you might think. We split fans 50/50 between two models. The cheaper one brought 32 subscribers from 741 fans; the more expensive one 19 from 732. What sells is short, natural, flirty texts and good timing, not the longest answers.
The hybrid most people end up with
The setup that works for most creators and agencies:
- The AI handles the volume - every first reply, warm-up, standard PPV, follow-up and objection.
- Humans take over the chats that need them: customs, VIP fans, calls, sensitive situations.
- Everyone sees the same dashboard: every transcript, every sale, every objection.
With EmpireChat, team members get their own login and only see what you allow. The AI keeps working while they sleep.
Cost side by side
- Human team: wages or commission for every shift, plus training and supervision.
- EmpireChat: 10% of the PPV and tip sales the AI makes, no monthly fee, 0% on subscriptions. If it sells nothing, it costs nothing.
